Colour
Perhaps most importantly, you need to consider what colour would go well in your garden. Whilst cotton may be your initial choice of fabric, it won’t stand up to the elements as well as polyester. Polyester cushion covers are fade and rot resistant which means they can withstand sun as well as rain.

You should also think about thickness of the cushions fillings. For teak steamers, sun loungers and chairs you should buy plump seat cushions, as your whole body weight will be resting on these. For back cushions, they don’t need to be as thick. Make sure that the cushions meet UK fire and safety regulations. This is extremely important, but especially so if your teak garden furniture is going to be anywhere near a barbeque. Always buy the highest quality you can, as you don’t want to discover that the cushions only last one season because they have worn out or the filling has irrevocably compressed.
