Q: What is the difference between Teak and other hardwoods?

A: The first thing that one must be aware of is that all of Patio Furniture’s Wooden Garden Furniture is made of Hardwood. As opposed to Softwood, Some examples of softwood include pine, redwood, fir, cedar, and larch.
Examples of British Hardwood include maple, balsa, oak, elm, mahogany, and sycamore. Other Hardwoods which are widely used in the manufacturing of Garden Furniture include Teak & Eucalyptus.
You will probably have realised that some Wooden Garden Furniture is vastly different in price than others, this will be down to both the type of wood and quality of manufacture. Teak is a more expensive option if you choose Grade A, this is incredibly strong and will last many years especially if treated as we advise. The section of the trunk used is from the very centre which is reflected in the cost. The wood is very dense and weathers very well allowing the wood if untreated to go a silver grey colour which people often prefer. Other hardwood furniture would be treated to allow the wood to weather without any other issues.
Also available on the market are other graded Teak options. Patio Furniture also offer Eco-Teak. This is manufactured using the outer layers of the trunk, and then environmentally treated to strengthen and enable the wood to be used in furniture manufacturing. A much less expensive alternative!
